Former midfielder Rio Ferdinand believes that his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo deliberately created a controversial interview to leave Man Utd mid-season.

Ferdinand believes Ronaldo has no way back after criticizing Man Utd on television on November 13. On his own show Vibe with Five, Ferdinand said: "It's over. Anyone at Man Utd who wants to keep Ronaldo can't do that anymore. When he said he didn't respect the coach, Ronaldo had to go and leave. he wants it."

Ferdinand and Man Utd legends such as Roy Keane, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville often support and protect Ronaldo whenever the Portuguese superstar has difficulty in his second time at Old Trafford. They once publicly protested against coach Erik ten Hag when he ignored Ronaldo this season.

Ronaldo actively conducted an interview with journalist Piers Morgan, a fan of his, to publicize many inside information of Man Utd. In which, the 37-year-old superstar emphasized that he did not respect coach Ten Hag, accused some Man Utd leaders of wanting him to leave last season and criticized the infrastructure and training equipment in Carrington. Ronaldo also criticized some juniors for their training and competition attitude, including Jadon Sancho.

"Me and the media have predicted this day will come," Ferdinand added about Ronaldo and Man Utd's inability to continue their relationship. The former England international emphasized that Man Utd had eliminated many stars in the past when they thought themselves bigger than the club, such as Ruud van Nistelrooy, David Beckham, Roy Keane and Japp Stam. "Everybody has a reason to leave but no one is like Ronaldo," Ferdinand said.

Man Utd on November 14 issued a 73-word notice about Ronaldo's interview on the homepage. The Old Trafford team will watch the full interview before giving their next reaction. Coach Ten Hag, CEO Richard Arnold and Director of Football John Murtough are said to have had an emergency meeting on November 14 to discuss Ronaldo.

A British law firm said that Man Utd can rely on Ronaldo's statements to unilaterally terminate the contract, if the 37-year-old striker seriously violates the obligation to keep information confidential with the team. FIFA rules state that a party can cancel a contract without consequences, if there is a good reason. Therefore, what Ronaldo said in the 90-minute interview could be evidence for Man Utd to cancel the contract until the summer of 2023.
