FIFA deletes post about the best player of all time
On December 19, a day after Messi won the World Cup with Argentina, FIFA's Twitter account posted: "The GOAT debate is over. The final trophy is part of the collection. Legacy. completed", accompanied by a photo of Messi holding the Golden Cup and the Best Player award in the final at Lusail Stadium (Qatar).
GOAT stands for "Greatest Of All Time". FIFA's message received the support of many people, but also brought opposition from many other fans. They believe that in the role of a football governing body, FIFA is lacking in objectivity.
The FIFA account later deleted this message.
GOAT has long been the subject of debate among Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo fans. After the tournament in Qatar, Messi completed the collection with all major trophies: a World Cup, a Copa America, four Champions Leagues and a record seven Ballon d'Or. Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo has five Champions Leagues, five Ballon d'Ors, but has never reached the final and won the World Cup. Pele won three World Cups, but lacked the Copa America, Champions League and Ballon d'Or. Maradona has one World Cup, but also lacks the other three.
Not long after deleting the message about GOAT, FIFA posted again: "Give your thumbs if you really like the World Cup 2022", the Twitter account posted with a picture of Ronaldo giving a thumbs up in a Portugal shirt. This message is controversial, because Portugal and Ronaldo personally have not played successfully. They passed the group stage as the top, crushed Switzerland 6-1 in the round of 16 but unexpectedly lost 0-1 to Morocco in the quarterfinals. The whole tournament, Ronaldo only scored one goal - a penalty in the opening match against Ghana. He then even had to reserve in the 1/8 round and quarter-finals because he was not trusted by coach Fernando Santos.
