Filip Nguyen is excited because he won the V-League in two months
Filip Nguyen was noticed by CAHN from the beginning of 2023, but could not leave because the owner club Slovacko lacked a backup goalkeeper. It wasn't until June, when the Czech team recruited goalkeeper Milan Heca, that Filip Nguyen could leave half a year earlier than the contract term to join CAHN.
"This is only my second month in Vietnam but I've already become a champion. I'm very excited. This is also the first title I won in my career so I want to enjoy it," said Filip Nguyen. after drawing Thanh Hoa 1-1 in the final round of V-League 2023.
This one match point helped CAHN win the V-League in the first season of promotion - a feat only HAGL could do 20 years ago. Filip Nguyen and his teammates have the same 38 points as the team chasing Hanoi FC, but more than the difference (+18 vs +13).
Filip Nguyen was born in 1992, to a Vietnamese father and a Czech mother. Although he has no Vietnamese nationality, he once stated that he felt like returning home when playing in the V-League. After helping CAHN to win, Filip wore the Czech flag as a tribute to the country that helped him become the talented goalkeeper he is today.
"I want to dedicate this championship to my entire family, who are watching me in the Czech Republic. In particular, my father, wife and son," Filip said.
Filip Nguyen made his CAHN debut in the 0-1 loss to Da Nang in the 13th round. Since then, he has started nine consecutive matches, including the loss to Nam Dinh in the 1/8 round of the National Cup. Overseas Vietnamese goalkeepers are highly appreciated for their ability to choose positions and play with their feet. He is also considered a counterweight to Dang Van Lam if he is summoned to the Vietnamese team.
Filip once said that the weather in Vietnam is the biggest obstacle for him, and said that this is the biggest difference when playing in Vietnam and the Czech Republic. However, at this time, the 30-year-old goalkeeper thinks that he has adapted and the weather is no longer a big problem.
