Fitzpatrick dreams of winning the PGA Tour on his favorite field
This 28-year-old Fitzpatrick has spent nine years playing professional golf with seven cups on the DP World Tour and the US Open 2022, hosted by the American Golf Association.
Before RBC Heritage 2023, Fitzpatrick had participated in this tournament seven times, but only achieved the best performance of T4, in the 2016 opening season.
"For me, this place has a lot of meaning, through the time I went to the resort as a child to play as an adult. I really love the tournament and the field and always want to win," said Fitzpatrick when he finished the third round, on April 15.
In the penultimate leg, the British golfer hit 63 strokes, breaking his own personal record for round achievements through 121 tournaments on the PGA Tour. He was bogey all game, scoring six birdies and an eagle, from a hole-punch on the second shot 149 yards from the flag on the par4 third hole.
High performance in the third round helped Fitzpatrick lead at -14, followed by Patrick Cantlay -13 while defending champion Jordan Spieth was third (-12).
Serious names within four strokes of Fitzpatrick include Tommy Fleetwood, Scottie Scheffler, Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar and Xander Schauffele.
If crowned, Fitzpatrick won the cup for the first time at a non-major tournament on the PGA Tour.
Fitzpatrick liked the RBC Heritage battlefield for the first time "face to face", in 2001. That year, he was only six years old, coming to the resort with his family.
