From the historic match with China, Vietnamese women's volleyball has made an unbelievable makeover after only 1 year
For those who love volleyball in Vietnam and have always watched the team's progress over the past time, surely we can't forget the emotional match against China at the AVC Cup 2022. The tournament marks the return. of Vietnamese volleyball after a period of time away from international playgrounds due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
That was the tournament where the Vietnamese women's volleyball team returned under coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet, and had valuable training time in Thailand before leaving for the Philippines to attend the 2022 AVC Cup.
In the same group as the champion candidate China, we experienced a really difficult match when the opponent took a 2-0 lead with a big gap of 25-12, 25-6. It was thought that Vietnam would soon give up, but suddenly we rose strongly, the very high performance of Vi Quynh (14 points), Nguyet Anh, Thanh Thuy (13 points) and Nguyen Thi Trinh (8 points) helped Vietnam. Nam won 2 sets straight 31-29 and 25-21.
However, in a long race, when a physical disadvantage appeared, the Vietnamese team made great efforts, but had to lose a set 12-15 before the opponent, thereby accepting the final defeat 2-3. . However, the two sets won by China have also entered the history of Vietnamese volleyball, something we have never done before.
Also since that match on August 22, 2022, Vietnamese women's volleyball has made a spectacular makeover and continuously broke the limits. The first was the AVC Cup that year, Vietnam overcame Chinese Taipei in the Quarterfinals before falling 1-3 to Japan.
Finishing fourth at the AVC Cup 2022 is just the first stepping stone, helping the Vietnamese team achieve consecutive achievements in 2023 such as winning the Asian Women's Club Championship, winning the AVC Challenge Cup, and winning the right to participate in FIVB Challenger Cup, interspersed with matches to narrow the gap with Thailand.
Most recently, we won a brave 3-2 victory over Korea and officially won the right to enter the top 4 tournaments in Asia. Once again Vietnam, Thailand, China and Japan participated in the Semi-finals, but compared to the tournament 1 year ago, the AVC Championship was much more prestigious when it calculated the FIVB ranking points and found 3 places to attend the tournament. The champion of the world.
One year ago, Vietnam entered the continental arena somewhat immaturely, now we have become much more stubborn and determined than before. 2 sets won more than 1 year ago is the history of Vietnamese volleyball and now we have the opportunity to continue to overthrow it.
Of course, creating a surprise is not easy. China brings to this year's Asian Championship a deep squad with extremely good physical shape. In addition to bravery, Vietnam needs a little luck, along with efforts to the end against the Chinese.
