Gebreslase set a marathon of the world tournament
The foot of Kenya Judith Korir led the delegation to run most of the time in the second half. But when 2km from the target, Gebreslase started to break and then rolled the first finish. Ethiopia athletes achieved 2 hours 18 minutes 11 seconds, buckled the old record for 2 hours 20 minutes 57 seconds of Paula Radcliffe in Helsinki, Finland in 2005.
Like Gebreslase, Korir first attended the world tournament. Kenya athlete on Monday and only after the champion 9 seconds. This is also the best personal achievement of Korir.
The copper medal belongs to the original Israeli -run foot Kenya Lonah Chemtai Salpeter, with a result of 2 hours 20 minutes 18 seconds. This is the first time these three athletes have won the World Athletics Medal.
The race on July 18 heated up right from the start, when the group of six athletes was broken, including three Kenya (Ruth Chepngetich, Korir, Angela Tanui) and three Ethiopia (Gebreslase, Ababel Yeshaneh and Ashete Beere). The champion in 2019 Chepngetich pulled up from 14km, but after only 4km, she had to give up because of stomach pain. The other two Kenya athletes are less experience, and have to fight with three Ethiopia rivals that are more appreciated. But it was not until the last km, Gebreslase to get rid of Korir.
Gebreslase was born on January 15, 1995 in Ethiopia. When she was young, she mainly competed as 3km, 5km or 10km, including the Young Gold Medal of the World 3km in 2011 in France. Gebreslase first took the prestigious marathon in Berlin 2021 and immediately won with a record of 2 hours 20 minutes 09 seconds.
Gebreslase's victory helps Ethiopia complete the entire set of two gold marathons. Because on July 17, Tamirat Tola also returned and set a record for male content, with a record of 2 hours 05 minutes 36 seconds. Ethiopia also became the second country to win a brace of gold marathon in the history of the tournament, after Kenya.
