Haaland helps Man City win big
A double in the second half made Haaland the fastest player to reach 20 goals in the Premier League. The Man City striker only needed 14 games to do this, seven fewer than Kevin Philips' old record. Haaland's goals helped Man City defeat the will of Leeds, in the match the host played resiliently in the first half. Pep Guardiola's teachers and students won 3-1, thereby shortening the gap with the top of the table Arsenal to five points.
Haaland was not satisfied with his own performance. The Norwegian striker told Amazon Prime after the game that he should have scored five goals in this match. The missed phases in the face of the Norwegian striker made Man City struggle to find the opener until the end of the first half. Besides Haaland, the person most to blame in the first half was Jack Grealish for squandering a series of delicious opportunities. But it was the duo who redeemed themselves in the second half, when Grealish twice assisted Haaland to score. Those are also Grealish's first assists in the Premier League this season.
Man City needed the 16th finish to find the goal at Elland Road. In the first minute of the first half, midfielder Rodri initiated a counterattack and was present at the right time to kick back after the handling of Riyad Mahrez. Rodri's first Premier League goal this season makes it easier for Man City to kick in the second half of the game. Before that, Leeds caused many difficulties for the visitors, with a fast approach and not afraid to collide.
It only took a minute for Man City to double the gap after the break. Also from the counter-attack, Grealish broke through and then crossed to Haaland to finish in the empty net, raising the score to 2-0. In the 64th minute, it was Grealish who returned, letting Haaland finish with one touch to defeat goalkeeper Illan Meslier. The Norwegian striker has scored 26 goals for Man City in all competitions this season.
