Opening the score against Everton on December 31, striker Erling Haaland became the highest scorer in the Premier League before the new year.

In the 24th minute, Riyad Mahrez led the ball on the right wing, turned to his right foot, and then passed it across to Haaland to buffer the close, to clear the deadlock.

This goal made Haaland the first player to score 21 goals in a Premier League season before the new year, although the tournament was suspended for a month to make way for the 2022 World Cup. The Norwegian striker significantly improved performance compared to the new year. with last season, when he scored 22 goals for Dortmund in 24 Bundesliga games.

Haaland set a new milestone in the Premier League through 15 matches, averaging 1.4 goals per game, not to mention three assists. In addition, the 22-year-old striker also scored five goals in the Champions League group stage and one in the 3-2 win over Liverpool in the 1/8 round of the English League Cup.

Previously, Haaland set many records in the first half of his year in the Premier League, including the fastest two hat-tricks, the most consecutive hat-tricks in home matches, or the player to reach the milestone. The fastest 20 tables.

Haaland currently leads the list of Premier League top scorers, far ahead of Harry Kane (13 goals), Ivan Toney (12), Aleksandar Mitrovic (10), or Miguel Almiron, Rodrigo (9). The Man City striker is only two goals behind the achievements of Son Heung-min and Mohamed Salah - the top scorer last season with 23 goals.

Haaland scored 21 goals from 62 shots and 368 touches. On average, the Norwegian striker finishes once per six touches, and one out of every 18 is converted into a goal.

The 22-year-old striker has a single-goal performance in 58 minutes. If he maintains this performance until the end of the season, Haaland will reach 55 goals, breaking the Premier League record of 34 goals held by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole. But this achievement is still far short of the all-time leading scorer in English football held by the late Everton striker Dixie Dean, who scored 60 goals in just 39 games in the 1927-1928 season.

Haaland also outperformed many players in their best scoring season in the Premier League, including Dwight Yorke (20 goals in 32 games in 1999-2000), Dimitar Berbatov (20 goals in 32 games in 2010-2000 season) 2011), Michael Owen (19 goals in 29 games in 2001-2002), Nicolas Anelka (19 goals in 37 games in 2008-2009), Jermain Defoe (18 goals in 34 games in 2009-2010), Steven Gerrard (16 goals) in 31 games in 2008-2009) and Robbie Keane (16 goals in 36 games in 2005-2006).

On January 1, Haaland posted a message on Instagram, promising to contribute more to Man City in the new year. "A busy year has followed with a lot of changes, but most importantly the changes for the best," he wrote. "Thank you for all the love I've received along the way, and let's stay together in 2023. As I always say, there's much more to come."
