Hoang Nam was eliminated early in Hyogo Noah Challenger 80
The Hyogo Noah Prize is also part of the Challenger 80 system, taking place just three days after the tournament in Matsuyama - where Ly Hoang Nam reached the semi-finals and jumped 17 places to 234th in the world.
The opponent of the Vietnamese tennis player today is Frederico Ferreira Silva, born in 1995, a Portuguese, ranked 291st in the world. In the last three tournaments in Challenger 80, Silva was eliminated from the group stage, but he is still rated higher than Hoang Nam, besides possessing seasoned experience. Silva has attended all four Grand Slams with nine qualifying rounds, including one reaching the first round of the 2021 Australian Open before losing to Nick Kyrgios.
Silva is left-handed and has a Rafael Nadal style. He showed his skill in the first set when he broke three serve games, quickly winning 6-2 after only 30 minutes of play. Hoang Nam is still unable to keep up with the high attack speed of opponents like Silva, while his serve phases do not create an advantage against the opponent.
In the second set, Hoang Nam had a chance to break in game 1, but missed. In game 2, Hoang Nam led 30-0, but then made a double serve error, allowing the opponent to break and lead 2-0. Despite breaking the break in game 5 to equalize 4-4, Hoang Nam fell again at the decisive moment in game 10. He missed, giving the opponent a 40-30 lead, then made a double serve and lost 4-6 on aggregate.
Stopped from the first round, Hoang Nam received 520 USD in prize money. Hyogo Noah Challenger 80 takes place from November 14 to 20 on hard courts with a total prize money of 53,120 USD (about 1.3 billion VND). It is expected that Ly Hoang Nam will also attend the Yokkaichi Challenger 80 tournament in Japan from November 21 to 27.
