Actor Ashton Kutcher achieved both his fundraising goal and sub4 achievement on his first run of 42.195km at the New York City Marathon.

In an interview before the tournament, the 44-year-old American actor revealed that he had two goals when attending the New York City Marathon on November 6. First, he wants to complete the contest and call on the community to donate at least $1 million to Thorn - Kutcher's personal charity. After that, the actor wanted to finish in less than 4 hours (sub4).

And Kutcher hit both goals. In terms of sports, he not only completed the full marathon (42.195km) but also reached 3 hours 54 minutes 1 second, with an average pace of 5:33, or 5 minutes 33 seconds per kilometer. This statistic puts Kutcher in 8,139th place out of a total of 47,743 runners - a result that is considered impressive for a first-time marathon participant.

Kutcher also surpassed the $1 million charity mark he set before the tournament, with $16,541.02 flowing into his account. All of this money will be put into the actor's support program against child sexual abuse.

Kutcher, running in a purple-pink Nike Alphafly, finished the first half (21.0975 km) in 1 hour 51 minutes 19 seconds. But like many new runners running a marathon for the first time, this actor lost his strength and ran for 2 hours 2 minutes 42 seconds in the second half of the distance.

Kutcher has jogging, but only from 6 to 8km, see it as an adjunct to the gym. Even so, he intends to challenge himself by running a marathon at least once in his life. The outbreak of Covid-19 with great implications for public health prompted him to soon realize this intention. Kutcher started to practice running longer, with 10km milestones, then gradually increased to 21km and over 21km.

"The biggest change that I had to adapt to when I switched to long runs was shifting the focus of the muscle groups from the upper body to the lower body," he told Entertainment Tonight. Kutcher also revealed that his wife - actress Mila Kunis - always supported him wholeheartedly in conquering the marathon challenge.

Kutcher is one of three rare celebrities to successfully run sub4 at the New York Marathon 2022. Matt James - TV MC who once hosted The Bachelor - achieved the best with 3 hours 46 minutes 45 seconds. He achieved this impressive result in part thanks to being led by Shalane Flanagan - 2017 New York City Marathon champion. The other celebrity to reach sub4 on November 6 is Meghan Duggan - former US hockey player - with 3 hours. 52 minutes 6 seconds.

Chelsea Clinton - daughter of former US President Bill Clinton - finished the contest after 4 hours 20 minutes 34 seconds. This achievement is 20 minutes slower than the 3 hours 59 minutes 9 seconds she achieved when she first ran the New York City Marathon last year.

The New York City Marathon is held annually, the first time in 1970. The tournament was canceled in 2020 due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, held again in 2021 but with a limited scale. This year the tournament has more than 50,000 athletes participating. 34-year-old Kenyan athlete Evans Chebet finished first with 2 hours 8 minutes 41 seconds. Chebet's compatriot, Sharon Lokedi, 28, won the women's championship with 2 hours 23 minutes 23 seconds.

The New York City Marathon's achievement record is currently 2 hours 5 minutes 6 seconds in the men's race, set by Geoffrey Mutai since 2005. The female record of the race belongs to Margaret Okayo with 2 hours 22 minutes 31 seconds set in 2003. .
