After New Zealand created an earthquake with a 1-0 victory over Norway, 75,000 fans at the Australian stadium hoped that the home team could create a winning opening day for the two host countries of the 2023 World Cup. With that momentum, Australia rushed to attack after the opening whistle.

However, Ireland shows that they are not easily bullied. The defense played smoothly and the excellence of the goalkeeper playing for Everton Club Courtney Brosnan helped the visitors stand firm.
