Hot: LeBron James seriously considers retirement after stopping in the Western finals
According to journalist Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report and the prestigious TV channel TNT, LeBron James is uncertain about his ability to play next season (2023-24) and is seriously considering retiring.
At the press conference after Game 4 with the Denver Nuggets, James was also not determined to return next season like the times before being eliminated from the Playoffs.
LeBron's current contract with the Los Angeles Lakers has 2 seasons left of 2023-24 and 2024-25, with a total salary of $97 million.
James has the right to decide to terminate the contract in the second season with the Player Option clause, which means he is still with the Lakers for another season on paper.
Haynes's source added that LeBron will consider many aspects, including the outcome of having to stop in the West finals against this year's Los Angeles Lakers.
It is known that the decision to retire or not will be carefully considered by LeBron James and will not be made in the near future.
After 20 years of playing, this is the first time fans see LeBron James hinting at the possibility of retirement. Weeks ago, he was still interested in trying to play at least two more seasons, realizing his dream of playing with his son Bronny (expected to appear in the NBA Draft 2024).
LeBron personally this season is still showing top form, was the All-Star captain and then made the All-NBA Team of the Year with an average of 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game.
James's excellence was key to helping the Los Angeles Lakers reach the Western Finals, overcoming second seed Memphis Grizzlies before stopping the defending champion Golden State Warriors.
It will be a period of extremely suspenseful waiting for Los Angeles Lakers fans in general and LeBron James in particular, from now until the day the "king" officially decides to continue playing or retire.
