Huynh Nhu: 'Thinking about my homeland makes me more confident'
The 0-2 defeat against Portugal in the second match of the World Cup group stage made the Vietnamese team no longer have a chance to enter the next round. The team will play the last match against the Netherlands on August 1 - where Vietnam is considered completely inferior. However, Huynh Nhu said the whole team will play with the most confidence.
Speaking after the match against Portugal, the captain of the Vietnamese team said that competing in the World Cup was a dream. Number 9 often thinks about his homeland to gain more confidence when entering matches. The journey at the 2023 Women's World Cup will stop after the match against the Netherlands, but Huynh Nhu believes the team will go even further in the future.
The Vietnamese women started the World Cup with a 0-3 loss to the defending champion USA. Failure with a three-goal margin is considered a success for the team. In the second match, despite being underestimated in terms of both physicality and level, the Vietnamese players suddenly pushed up the offensive squad from the beginning. However, this approach made the team unable to keep the distance of the formation, conceding two goals.
After two rounds, the Netherlands is sharing four points like the US, but is second due to a poor goal difference (one versus three). Coach Andries Jonker and the players all announced that they would try to score many goals against Vietnam to race the difference with the US, in order to occupy the top of the table. Huynh Nhu and his teammates forecast a difficult day of competition.
In the last match, the striker wearing the Lank FC shirt hopes that domestic fans will continue to cheer for the team to play confidently and dedicate.
