Huynh Nhu's team conceded 21 goals in three matches
Lank FC lost a total score of 2-13 after two matches in the first round of the Federation Cup against Racing Power FC - a newly promoted team to play the Portuguese national championship Liga BPI. After that, Lank continued to lose 0-8 to Sporting Lisbon in the opening round of Liga BPI 2023-2024.
Conceding 21 goals in just the first three matches of the season is the worst statistic in Lank FC history. This number is dramatically higher than last season when the team conceded 52 goals in 28 matches all season in all competitions. Also last season, Lank ranked sixth in Liga BPI, reached the quarterfinals of the League Cup and the fourth round of the National Cup. But according to the current situation, they are included in the group at high risk of relegation.
Lank's decline stemmed from chairman Nene Miranda's reduction in investment. The team only registered 18 players this season, including eight from last season's 34-player roster. The best players who have left include striker Malu Schimdt - the team's best scorer last season with 12 goals, midfielder Sini Laaksonen, midfielder Madalena Marau or goalkeeper Daniela Araujo.
Huynh Nhu is one of eight team names from last season that were retained. At the age of 31, the Vietnamese striker is the eldest sister and a pillar of the team with Gabi Goncalves, leading a squad of 11 U20 players. Huynh Nhu started all three matches of the first season with 268 minutes. She did not contribute to the goals and received a yellow card.
Last season, Huynh Nhu played 22 matches with 981 minutes, scoring seven and assisting two goals. She creates attraction in both Vietnam and the Portuguese tournament and is considered the most successful Vietnamese player when playing abroad.
On the official fanpage, Lank fans said that most of the players on the team are not qualified to play in Liga BPI. The team will continue to lose heavily and be relegated if there are no more quality players.
2023/2024 is the fourth consecutive season Lank competes in Liga BPI. The last time the team was relegated was the 2018/2019 season when it only won 11 points after 22 matches.
