Indonesia lost the opening match of the Asian U20 despite being better than people
Immediately after the opening, Indonesia actively pushed up the squad, attacking the opponent first. They created some good chances early on, but failed to capitalize them. In the 4th minute, Ronaldo Kwateh escaped down the right wing, stretched across for Hokky Caraka, but from close range, he shot at the right position of goalkeeper Husseein Hassan. In the 20th minute, it was Ronaldo's turn to disappoint when he finished from a distance of 3 meters, but still could not beat the opponent's goalkeeper.
While the attack squandered opportunities, the Indonesian defense made mistakes. In the 28th minute, Muhammad Ferarri let Sajjad Mahdi from a disadvantage leaned over, brought the ball to Hayder's feet, and the 21st player coldly finished the corner to open the score for Iraq.
The goal made Indonesia demoralized. The phases of the Southeast Asian representatives were easily neutralized, making them no longer threaten Husseein Hassan's goal. Standing outside the boundary line, coach Shin repeatedly expressed his disappointment with the ball handling phase of his students.
Hope is lit for Indonesia when learning to kick more than people from the first minute of the first half. Iraq player Charbel Shamoon is fouled and gets a direct red card.
But the advantage of numbers did not help Indonesia play better after the 15 minute break. They still did not create any dangerous opportunities, while letting Iraq constantly threaten the goal. Coach Shin's army also had to ask goalkeeper Daffa Sumawijaya to save in two consecutive situations against the Iraqi striker, to not concede more goals in the 50th and 52nd minutes.
In the 75th minute, Missa - the player who had just been kicked into the field by coach Shin - made a mistake to kick Mustafa Qabeel's foot in the penalty area, causing Indonesia to be penalized. But on the 11m mark, captain Abdulrazzaq Qasim missed the post.
Iraq then squandered a number of other delicious opportunities, including Mustafa Qabeel's shot to the edge of the net after dribbling past goalkeeper Sumawijaya in the 85th minute. But against an opponent immature in defense, Iraq also scored a goal in the last minute of compensation. Abdul Jameel dribbled the technical ball past two Indonesian players, then passed it to Mohammed Jameel to score a touch to confirm the result 2-0.
Losing to Iraq, Indonesia fell to the bottom of Group A. However, coach Shin Tae-young's teachers and students did not have to worry about competing for tickets to the semi-finals to attend the 2023 U20 World Cup final like other teams. They entered this tournament directly as the host country.
