International Series Vietnam 2023 has an impressive opening
In the non-bogey group, Zhengkai has the deepest sound (-8) and Hung Chien-yao the least negative (-3). Zengkai, of China, scored eight birdies to take the top spot while Hung, a Taiwanese national (China) came in at T41.
Korean golfer Taehee Lee scored the most eagles, with two at holes 14 and 17. In addition, he has four birdies. However, due to the 16th hole bogey, Lee had to stand T2 (-7) with Indian golfer Honey Baisoya and Taiwanese player Lee Chieh-po. Baisoya scored nine birdies, the most in the opening leg, but the round score was at -7 due to two bogeys, divided equally between each half of the field. Lee Chieh-po scored seven birdies and was in the no-bogey group.
The International Series Vietnam marks the return of the Asian Tour to Vietnam after an eight-year absence, since the 2015 Ho Tram Open at The Bluffs in Ba Ria-Vung Tau. Both tournaments take place on courses designed by golf legend Greg Norman.
At this year's tournament, the host country has 14 representatives to fight. Nguyen Anh Minh, Le Khanh Hung, Nguyen Dang Minh, Doan Uy and Dang Quang Anh participated in the amateur position. Professional level (pro) includes Tran Le Duy Nhat, Truong Chi Quan, Dinh Song Hai, Nguyen Huu Quyet, Nguyen Tuan Kiet, Pham Minh Duc, Le Dai Duong, Doan Van Dinh, Le Viet Cuong.
After 18 holes, Doan Uy reached the highest performance in the domestic team, shown in the position of T21 (-4), Khanh Hung in T62 (-2), right above Anh Minh (T76 with a score of -1). Doan Uy and Anh Minh were both born in 2007, one year older than Khanh Hung.
Considering the local professional group, Duy Nhat achieved the best result, when he stood at T100 (even par). Duy Nhat became "pro" in 2008, having won 74 awards when combining his career in the first-class golf arena in Asia - the Asian Tour and the second branch under the Asian Development Tour.
The history of the Asian Development Tour, from 2010 to now, has recorded only the Vietnamese national champion, at Ciputra Golfpreneur Tournament 2015.
Round 2 of International Series Vietnam starts from the morning of April 14. The whole tournament has 156 competitors competing for a prize fund of two million USD over four rounds. The organizers cut the category after the 2nd round, according to the principle of taking the top or T65.
