Jadon Sancho refers to Ten Hag as lying
After losing 1-3 at Emirates Stadium in the fourth round of the Premier League, when asked about Sancho's absence, Ten Hag replied: "We did not choose Sancho based on performance in the training ground. You have to show equality. the top level every day at Man Utd. I have many options in attack, and Sancho was not selected today."
Less than an hour later, on X - the social network formerly known as Twitter, Sancho posted a message saying that he had been a "scapegoat" for a long time and that this was unfair. The English midfielder also emphasized that he practiced very well last week and that the fact that he was removed from the Arsenal match came from many other reasons that cannot be made public.
"Please don't believe everything you read! I will not allow people to say things that are completely untrue," Sancho wrote. "All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to the team. I respect every decision made by the coaching staff. I play with great players and am grateful to be able to do that. That's what I know every week is a challenge. I will continue to fight for Man Utd no matter what."
Sancho once made a strong impression at Dortmund with 50 goals and 65 assists, causing Man Utd to spend 107 million USD to recruit in the summer of 2021. But the English player has never met expectations at Old Trafford. Over two seasons, Sancho contributed 12 goals and six assists in 79 matches. Last season, he was even absent from October 22 to early February 2023 when he had to take time off to treat psychological and physical problems in the Netherlands. This season, the 23-year-old was a substitute in all three Premier League matches, appearing for a total of 76 minutes but not contributing to any goals, before being removed from the Arsenal squad.
Yesterday, Ten Hag used a trio of strikers Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Antony. In the second half, the Dutch coach launched Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho into the field.
The away team opened the score thanks to Marcus Rashford's powerful shot to the far corner in the 27th minute. But after that, Man Utd let Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, and Gabriel Jesus puncture the net and suffered a 1-3 defeat. This result caused Man Utd to drop to 11th with six points, while Arsenal rose to fifth with 10 points, equal to West Ham, Liverpool, Tottenham, and two points behind Man City.
After a break to make room for the national team, Man Utd returns home to host Brighton on September 16, while Arsenal is a guest of Everton on September 17 in round 5 of the Premier League.
