Three Jamaican athletes from the United States won the women's 100m medals, including 36-year-old Shirley Anfraser Price, who broke the record of the World Athletics Championships on July 17th.

The women's 100m final in Eugene, Oregon featured three Jamaican, two American, one British, Swiss and Ivory Coast athletes. Fraser-Pryce and compatriot Shericka Jackson took the lead after the first 50 metres, but the 36-year-old sprinted at 10.67 seconds to finish first. Although not breaking the individual record, Fraser-Price still set a new record in the race, surpassing the old record of 10.70 seconds set by American athlete Marion Jones in Seville, Spain in 1999.

Jackson set a personal record with a time of 10.73 seconds, and also won the second place and silver medal. But this is the 28-year-old runner's highest position in the individual event in the world arena.

The athlete who won the bronze medal was also Jamaican, when Elaine Thompson-Herah scored 10.81 seconds. Thompson-Hera is best known for winning double gold in the 100m and 200m at the last two Olympic Games in 2016 and 2021.

This is Fraser Price's 10th world gold medal, including five gold medals in individual events. She also surpassed Justin Gatling to become the oldest world sprint champion in history.

Coach Lance Bowman also said that Eugene's Hayward track improved athletes' performance by about 0.07 to 0.10 seconds per 100 meters. But it is undeniable that Fraser Price, 36, has also made progress in recent years. "I'm a fighter and I've always wanted to fight," she said after Hayward's victory.

The Jamaican sprint team won a 100-meter medal in a major event for the second time in a row with Thompson Hera, Fraser Price and Jackson. At last summer's Tokyo Olympics, they also occupied the podium. Thompson Hera won the first place in 10.61 seconds, Fraser Price won the second place in 10.74 seconds and Jackson won the third place in 0.02 seconds.

Fraser Price was born on December 27, 1986 in Kingston, Jamaica. At the Olympics, she won two individual gold medals in the 100-meter race in 2008 and 2012. In the past two competitions, she won bronze medal and silver medal respectively. Despite being only 1.52 meters tall, she has won the 100m more times on the world stage than any other female athlete in history.

The women's 100m world record has been held by Florence Griffiths-Joyner (USA) since 1988 at 10.49 seconds. Fraser's personal record is 10.60 seconds in Lausanne, Switzerland in August 2021.

The World Athletics Championships were held from July 15th to July 24th, with 192 countries and regions participating. Vietnam has only one representative, Asian women's 400m hurdles champion Quach Thi Lan. She will participate in the qualifying competition on the evening of July 19th and the morning of July 20th Hanoi time.
