James Harden was 'obese and greedy' by his former teacher
James Harden stirred up conflict between himself and the Philadelphia 76ers. Harden's former Houston Rockets head coach, Kevin McHale, wasn't exactly shocked when the relationship started to take a turn for the worse.
After a failed contract extension, Harden activated a one-year $35.6 million extension option with Philly but promptly requested an exchange.
Harden was said to have wanted to join the Los Angeles Clippers, but the deal didn't materialize and the 76ers star called CEO Daryl Morey a "liar."
After many players spoke out in defense of MVP 2017/18, it was the turn of the Boston Celtics legend to sided with Morey in this case. The former Rockets coach believes that the CEO does not always have the right to decide.
"Harden was hungry for a huge contract at the 76ers but Philadelphia did not respond. Daryl was of course partly responsible, but the final decision rests with the owner," Kevin McHale explained.
"I think Daryl Morey wants to renew his contract and keep everyone's peace. However, when it comes to trade, he is very tough. It will be very interesting."
Another reason why Kevin McHale did not want to side with James Harden: after this strategist let Harden sit on the bench in game 6 of the Western semifinals 2015, God Beard showed an uncooperative attitude.
"He came to pre-season training camp fat and said he wasn't in the mood to play," recalls McHale. "He got me fired after that."
