Juventus was left behind in the race for the top 4
Juventus missed a series of pillars when Mattia De Sciglio, Paul Pogba and Kaio Jorge were injured, and Moise Kean was suspended. Coach Max Allegri is also absent due to illness and assistant Marco Landucci replaces the direction off the touchline. On the opposite side, Lazio welcomed Ciro Immobile and Adam Marusic back.
Lazio pushed up the team to attack first, creating a series of delicious opportunities but overcame thanks to a controversial goal. In the 38th minute, from Mattia Zaccagni's cross, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic installed Alex Sandro to eliminate him, and then blocked a close-range shot to lower Wojciech Szczesny. Juventus players reacted violently when they thought that Milinkovic-Savic had pushed Sandro, but the VAR team did not intervene.
The advantage was only maintained by Lazio for three minutes. Goalkeeper Ivan Provedel blocked Bremer's header from the corner, but Adrien Rabiot's continuous effort to kick back helped Juventus bring the game to the starting line. In all competitions, Rabiot is the only Serie A midfielder to reach ten goals, including eight in Serie A.
Early in the second half, Lazio once again took the lead. From Felipe Anderson's cross on the right, Luis Alberto delicately heeled Mattia Zaccagni's lap just out of Szczesny's reach. A few minutes later, Zaccagni continued to hit the visitors' net, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
However, a 2-1 victory is enough for Lazio to secure second place with 58 points, five points more than Roma - who won Torino 1-0 yesterday. Meanwhile, Juventus is still seventh with 44 points and eight points behind the Champions League group. This is the result of them being deducted 15 points due to mistakes related to accounting, financial reporting and market manipulation. If no points are deducted, Juventus is the second team after Napoli.
After the game, assistant Landucci refused to talk about the referee's controversial decision to award Milinkovic-Savic's opener, insisting that Juventus played "below normal" in the first half. According to Landucci, "The old lady" improved significantly in the second half and the draw would be more fair.
Meanwhile, Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri admitted Milinkovic-Savic's goal could be denied, but said Juventus should have received two red cards with Manuel Locatelli and Juan Cuadrado.
