Kane scored twice, keeping the winning streak for Bayern
Played the first Bundesliga match at home in the 2023-2024 season, but Bayern had difficulty with Augsburg's counter-attacking defensive play. The visitors almost opened the scoring when Ermedin Demirovic missed the goal of goalkeeper Sven Ulreich.
Bayern had to rely on a lucky finish in the 32nd minute to open the scoring. After Leroy Sane hit goalkeeper Finn Dahmen, the ball bounced off center-back Felix Uduokhai and rolled over the goal line. Uduokhai cleared the ball, but VAR recognized the goal for the home team.
After that, Bayern started to play more efficiently. 40 minutes, the referee awarded a penalty to the home team after Niklas Dorsch fouled Joshua Kimmich. Kane successfully made it to double the lead, and also set a record of seven consecutive league matches for the first time in his career. Before that, the 30-year-old striker scored in the last five Premier League games last season with Tottenham and the Bundesliga opening match with Bayern this season.
Bayern continued to press the field at the beginning of the second half. Sane and Serge Gnabry both missed opportunities in front of Augsburg, while the visitors only responded with a long shot from Ruben Vargas. In the 69th minute, Kane once again showed his ability to finish in front of the Allianz Arena fans. After receiving a pass from Alphonso Davies, the English striker clicked the ball past goalkeeper Dahmen to make it 3-0.
Augsburg only managed to get one goal up after 86 minutes. After receiving Demirovic's slot, Beljo escaped to shoot and hit Ulreich's net.
After the second win in a row, Bayern continued to rank second in the Bundesliga. The defending champion achieved six absolute points and a +6 difference like the leading team Union Berlin, but scored one goal less. Meanwhile, Leverkusen, Wolfsburg and Freiburg are behind with a lower difference.
The victory over Augsburg also marked Joshua Kimmich's 350th match at Bayern. In his quest to reach this number, the 28-year-old midfielder has won eight Bundesliga, three German Cups, six German Super Cups, one Champions League, one European Super Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup.
