Kiplangat World Men's Marathon Champion
Kiplangat is the second Ugandan runner to win a gold medal in the men's marathon at the World Athletics Championships, after senior Stephen Kiprotich was crowned in Moscow 2013 with 2 hours 9 minutes 51 seconds.
Kiplangat, born in 1999, competes in many events such as 5,000m, 10,000m, cross country, half marathon, marathon, mountain run, team half marathon and team mountain run. He won a gold medal in both individual and team content at the 2017 Italy world mountain race, and won a team gold medal at the Andorra world mountain race 2018.
In the marathon content, he won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 with 2 hours 10 minutes 55 seconds, despite taking a wrong turn near the end of the stage. Victory in Budapest today helps Kiplangat to win the world championship for the first time.
