Klopp: 'Liverpool showed top football'
"There are no words to describe it. The game was spectacular, brilliant," Klopp said after the win at Anfield. "We started perfectly, super lively, super dynamic, playing top ball against opponents in good form. In the second half we started well, finished well, everything was good. ".
At Anfield, Man Utd started not bad when many times threatened the home goal. 10 minutes, Antony cut the left foot of his forte from outside the penalty area, making compatriot Alisson Becker unable to catch, then Bruno Fernandes headed off the post 26 minutes. By 42 minutes, Casemiro headed home Liverpool, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
After that, Liverpool took complete control of the game. The trio in attack, Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez all scored twice, and Roberto Firmino - a player on the field from the 79th minute - scored the winning goal.
Klopp admitted Man Utd "entered the game a little better", and saw Gakpo's opening goal as the turning point. He also insisted Liverpool "couldn't have started the second half better" with two goals in three minutes from Nunez and Salah. "Then the players fly high and it's really difficult to play against Liverpool like that," added Klopp.
The German coach was also pleased when all Liverpool strikers scored, including the player who came on as a substitute for Fimino. "The important thing is that the whole team plays and performs well," added Klopp. "It's an important result and tonight was perfect. But we're not talking about the score, we're talking about the performance."
The jubilant victory over the great rival helped Liverpool rise to fifth with 42 points, three points behind Tottenham and played less than one match. "This is the push we want and puts Liverpool on the right track," Klopp said confidently into the race for the top four. "The opponents must know that we are still here to compete. Liverpool are not doing that in time. It took a long time, but today's performance showed what Liverpool can do."
However, the 55-year-old coach denied that Liverpool was motivated to create a comeback against Real in the second leg of the 1/8 Champions League round. In the first leg at Anfield, Liverpool lost 2-5 despite leading 2-0 thanks to Salah and Nunez. Klopp insists Liverpool's immediate goal is to rest and prepare for the next match against Bournemouth on March 11, before thinking about Real.
