Klopp: 'Liverpool took a small step forward in Chelsea draw'
"Every success starts with being hard to beat and today Liverpool have done it again," Klopp said in his post-match press conference at Stamford Bridge. "If it's hard to beat Arsenal, we can win that game. Otherwise Arsenal will beat us."
Klopp replaced six people in the starting line-up compared to Man City's 1-4 defeat last weekend, including three positions in defence. According to the German coach, this was a challenge for his students, but in the end Liverpool stood firm against the attack of Chelsea.
Overall, Chelsea played better in this competition. They twice put the ball in the net of Liverpool but it was not recognized. Without the talent of goalkeeper Alisson Becker and the ungodliness of the home strikers, Liverpool would have received a fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions, after falling to Bournemouth, Real and Man City.
"We didn't start very well when we often lost the ball. But the players gradually improved. It was not a good game for Liverpool. But it was a small step forward for us," said Klopp.
The draw left Liverpool in eighth place, seven points behind fourth-place Tottenham. Klopp's teachers and students will continue to lead Arsenal in the next round on the evening of April 9. The result of that match can affect the championship race when the gap between Arsenal and Man City is eight points, but the "Gunners" kick more than one game.
