Klopp pledges to stay despite Liverpool being sold
Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the owner of Liverpool, is said to be inviting partners to buy the club. FSG had intended to sell Liverpool in 2018 and last year received an offer worth $3.5 billion from the Middle East. According to British media, FSG wants to receive $ 5 billion for this offering, higher than Forbes magazine's valuation of 4.45 billion.
After Liverpool defeated Derby County in the third round of the English League Cup on November 9, coach Jurgen Klopp confirmed that the home team's dressing room was not affected by the superstructure problem. He said: "We have known about this for a long time. Owners want to find investment partners but for some reason the media say they are selling the club. Liverpool getting more investment is a good idea, I like that. ".
Coach Klopp thinks that the situation at Liverpool is different from Chelsea. The London team was forced to sell this summer, when billionaire Roman Abramovich had his properties in England confiscated. American billionaire Tood Boehly then took over Chelsea for $ 5.2 billion. Meanwhile, Klopp believes that Liverpool owners are looking for more partners and are not under pressure to sell the club. The German military leader also committed to honor the contract until 2024 with the Anfield owner.
"No player asked me about this," Klopp added. "If they want to know then I'll tell them everything I know. It makes no sense if we sit in the dressing room to talk about this. We are there to talk about football and are focused on the footballing players. performance on the field".
FSG is owned by billionaire John Henry, co-founded with Tom Werner. The sports group also owns the Boston Red Sox baseball franchise, the NESN television network, a 50% stake in Roush Fenway Racing and Fenway Sports Management, controlled by John Henry. In October 2010, FSG acquired Liverpool from two American businessmen - George Gillett Jr and Tom Hicks - for nearly $350 million.
Billionaire Henry opened a brilliant era for Liverpool when he decided to recruit coach Klopp to replace Brendan Rodgers in 2015. Over the past seven years, Klopp helped them win the Champions League, the first English Premier League title in the club's history, a League Cup, English Super Cup, FA Cup, European Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup. Klopp's contract was renewed for another two years in April.
