Kompany brought Burnley to the Premier League
This victory helps Burnley definitely finish in the top 2 Championship. Kompany's teachers and students currently lead with 87 points, 19 points more than third place Luton when the season only has six rounds left. According to the tournament rules, the two top teams in the Championship will be promoted to the Premier League next season. The next four teams will be drawn to play the play-off to win the final ticket to play in the highest league in England.
Kompany played for Anderlecht, Hamburger, and then played for Man City in the 2008-2019 period. This is one of the team's most successful signings, laying a solid foundation for a new era under the Arab owners' reign. Kompany scored 20 goals in 360 games, with the club winning four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups and two English Super Cups. In particular, the 36-year-old player scored many important goals to help Man City win the Premier League such as the header against Man Utd in 2012 or the super long shot in the match against Leicester in the 2019-2020 season.
In the 2019-2020 season, Kompany left Man City to return to his childhood club Anderlecht, taking on the role of player and coach. Due to his failure as a coach, after only a few games, Kompany handed over his position as a manager and only took on the role of defender and captain of Anderlecht. In the summer of 2020, he retired from his career as a player and became the coach of Anderlecht on a four-year contract, with the best achievement being the runner-up of the Belgian National Cup 2022.
In the summer of 2022, Kompany was appointed as Burnley coach, after the club was relegated from the English Premier League. The former Belgian midfielder made a strong impression when he and Burnley owned the best records in the tournament, with 25 wins, two losses, scored 76 goals and conceded 30 times. He was also twice honored as the best coach of the month, in October 2022 and December 2022.
When asked if he had ambitions to have such a good season, Kompany admitted: "No. This is Easter. There are still seven games to go and we're already celebrating."
Chairman Alan Pace admitted he did not expect Burnley to return to the Premier League after only one season. He revealed that with Kompany, he drew up a two- to three-year plan to bring the club to promotion and consider this a "magic" season.
Despite losing the match, Middlesbrough still has the opportunity to be promoted when they are in fourth place with 67 points. Coach Michael Carrick - former Man Utd midfielder - congratulated Burnley and set a goal with Middlesbrough to fight in England's top league next season.
