New Zealand Casey Phair became the youngest player to compete in the World Cup when entering the field in the 78th minute of the match Korea lost 0-2 to Colombia on the morning of July 25.

* Score: Usme 31', Caicedo 39'

Casey Phair set the record at 16 years and 26 days. Before that, the milestone belonged to Ifeanyi Chiejine - aged 16 years and 34 days - when he appeared in the Nigeria match against North Korea in 1999. The men's World Cup record belonged to Norman Whiteside of Northern Ireland, at 17 years and 40 days in the match against the former Yugoslavia in the 1982 World Cup.

Phair's full name is Casey Yu-jin Phair, whose father is American and mother is Korean. The family moved to the US when Phair was just one month old. The girl born in 2007 is playing for Pingry School and practicing football at the PDA Player Development Institute in New Jersey.

Phair made his Korean football debut in the U17 team when he scored twice against Tajikistan and three against Hong Kong to help the team qualify for the 2024 Asian Women's U17 Championship.

On the Wellington Regional Stadium this morning, Casey Phair came on for Choe Yu-ri but could not help Korea get out of the 0-2 loss to Colombia. Both goals of the Asian representative were mistakes of the defense in the first half.

In the 31st minute, Shim Seo-yeon let the ball touch her hand in the penalty area, leading to a penalty. On the 11m mark, Catalina Usme shot into the left corner, fooling goalkeeper Yoon Young-geul. Nine minutes later, goalkeeper Yoon himself made a mistake. From Linda Caicedo's long shot, Yoon tried to catch it but missed to let the ball go around his head and into the net. The Colombian striker, who plays for Real Madrid, became the first teenager (18 and younger) to score at the 2023 Women's World Cup.

South Korea is currently ranked third in Group H, has not won points like Morocco, but is ranked above due to a better goal difference. Colombia is second with three points equal to Germany but with a difference (+2 vs +6).
