Kroos was the worst critic of the 2022 World Cup even though he didn't play
In the popular Spanish TV show El Chiringuito, journalist Cubero was asked to name the worst players in her opinion at the 2022 World Cup, and Kroos was one of them.
On December 24, Kroos took to Twitter to reply, "I knew right away someone was going to blame me", with a smiling emoji.
Cubero later explained the confusion, noting that she wanted to name Kroos' former teammate Thomas Muller. "Hahahahahaha sorry Toni. You're right. I was wrong. I mean Muller," Cubero wrote.
Kroos is not on the German squad for the 2022 World Cup. The 32-year-old midfielder even left the team from July 2021, after being eliminated in the 1/8 Euro round.
Kroos has played for Germany since 2010. His best achievement with the team was winning the 2014 World Cup. In 2018, he and his teammates had to return home from the group stage after losing 0-1 to Mexico and 0- to South Korea. 2, in addition to the 2-1 win over Sweden.
In the 2022 World Cup, Germany also returned home from the group stage. They lost to Japan 1-2, then drew Spain 1-1 and won Costa Rica 4-2. In this group, Japan leads with six points, while Germany has the same four points but is less than Spain.
"I'm extremely disappointed. If we were eliminated by Brazil in the quarter-finals, we might say, 'OK, Brazil can have eight world-class players, and we have only four'. But nobody has. We can say that we are less qualified than Japan," commented Kroos.
The 2022 World Cup championship belongs to Argentina. Coach Lionel Scaloni's team started with a 1-2 defeat against Saudi Arabia, but beat Mexico and Poland with a score of 2-0 to top Group C. In the knockout stages, Argentina won Australia, the Netherlands, Croatia then France 4-2 in the penalty shootout (draw 3-3 in 120 minutes) in the final.
Argentina has thus achieved three World Cups, only behind Brazil (five), Germany and Italy (four). France and Uruguay are behind with the same two titles, while England and Spain have one.
Kroos still plays for Real Madrid club. In May, he won his fifth Champions League when Real beat Liverpool 1-0 in the final. Germany coach Hansi Flick convinced Kroos to return to the World Cup, but failed.
