Kyrgios challenges Alcaraz
Sitting out most of this season due to injury, but Nick Kyrgios remains confident in his ability. After praising Carlos Alcaraz's victory at Wimbledon, the Australian tennis player admitted he wanted to fight juniors next year.
"I really want to know how I will play with Alcaraz in good health. Alcaraz, what do you think about holding a match in your hometown next year?", Kyrgios wrote on his personal Instagram page.
Kyrgios this month dropped out of Wimbledon because he couldn't recover from a wrist injury. He also left open the possibility of participating in hard court tournaments in August, including the US Open. The 28-year-old believes the ATP Tour lacks appeal without him and Nadal. "Things will be better when Rafael Nadal and I come back," Kyrgios expressed.
To prove his ability, Kyrgios posted a statistic that showed him leading in serve points and pressure points, while Alcaraz led in return points. The post of the Australian tennis player caused controversy. Many fans mocked Kyrgios for not having won any Masters 1000 or Grand Slam titles.
Kyrgios has spent 10 years playing professionally, winning seven ATP Tour titles – five fewer than Alcaraz. Kyrgios has never entered the top 10 ATP, while Alcaraz is the number one in the world.
Kyrgios has repeatedly admitted that he is not fully focused on tennis. In an interview last week, he said: "With all the parties and the bottles of wine I've had, I'd be 57 years old. I'm definitely not going to play until I'm 33. Tennis isn't everything. with me".
