Lampard was advised to learn from Klopp, Guardiola

After sacking Graham Potter, Chelsea appointed Lampard as interim coach until the end of the 2022-2023 season. The English player once led Chelsea from July 2019 to January 2021, but did not achieve success. He helped Chelsea finish fourth in the Premier League, finish second in the FA Cup and reach the eighth round of the Champions League in his debut season 2019-2020, and was soon fired the following season.

According to Obi Mikel, Lampard lacks enthusiasm on the touchline, like his predecessor Potter. Therefore, he wants Lampard to show more emotions, like Jurgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola. "We see them always full of emotions, like they want to play. I want to see that when Lampard takes Chelsea this time," Mikel said on Dubai Eye on April 13.

The former Nigerian midfielder admits he likes a coach full of passion, enthusiasm, always shouting or even scolding players on the touchline. "Sometimes you need that kind of kick to wake up," he explains. "With Potter, I don't see that."

Mikel played for Chelsea from 2006-2017, during the reign of Roman Abramovich. At Stamford Bridge, the former Nigerian midfielder won two Premier Leagues, four FA Cups, two League Cups, an English Super Cup, a Champions League and a Europa League.

Potter is the first coach appointed to lead Chelsea under new president Todd Boehly. He is expected to stop the crisis when he takes office at Stamford Bridge on September 8, 2022, replacing his predecessor Thomas Tuchel. But more than six months of work, the British coach did not meet expectations, winning only 12 matches, reaching a rate of 38.7%, drawing eight and losing 11 out of 38 matches.

According to Mikel, Potter was given enough time and Chelsea was right to fire this military leader. He said: "The question is did Potter have enough time? I think he has enough, and Chelsea have made the right decision, given the position they are in when the club drifts out of the top 10 in the Premier League."

Mikel thinks that if former owner Roman Abramoivhc is still in charge at Chelsea, Potter will certainly be fired sooner. The Russian billionaire took over Chelsea with nearly $ 190 million in the summer of 2003, then decided to sell Chelsea due to public pressure from the Russia-Ukraine tension in March 2022. Chelsea had 17 coaches during Abramovich's 19-year reign, in which names such as Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti or Antonio Conte were sacked.

Mikel commented that Potter's calm and aloof attitude on the touchline is different from the style of some coaches who have led the club such as Mourinho, Conte or his predecessor Tuchel. The 35-year-old former midfielder emphasized that Potter is not good enough to lead a big club like Chelsea. "Sometimes when I look at Potter on the touchline, I feel like he really doesn't know what to do. Potter doesn't communicate with the players, doesn't direct them on what to do on the pitch," Mikel said.

Lampard started his second term with Chelsea not well when he lost 0-1 at Wolves in the 30th round of the Premier League over the weekend. After that, he and the team lost 0-2 at Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals and lost Ben Chilwell from the 59th minute because of a direct red card.
