Laporta believes Messi will return to Barca

Spain President Joan Laporta is optimistic that Barca will sign superstar Lionel Messi in the summer of 2023.

In Barca's 0-0 draw against Getafe at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on April 16, an audience member asked Laporta: "Will Messi return to Barca, Joan?". He replied, "Yes," and with a wink.

The day before, an author on the news site Tribuna met Laporta at the docks in Madrid. This person shouted Messi, immediately Laporta turned to them and gave a thumbs up to agree.

In March, Laporta also posted a forum saying that "Barca's door is always open to welcome Messi". "What I did after taking over as president of Barca was not good, when I had to let Messi leave Barca in the summer of 2021," he added. "Now I have to find a way to improve the relationship between Messi and Barca."

Laporta returned as Barca president in March 2021, not long after his predecessor Josep Maria Bartomeu resigned. At the end of June 2021, Messi's contract with Barca expired, but at that time Laporta confirmed he "will stay at Camp Nou". On August 5, 2021, Barca announced that they could not keep Messi, even though the two sides had reached an agreement to extend. Barca thinks that the regulations on salary tightening from La Liga are a barrier that prevents them from signing a new contract with the Argentine superstar. Three days later, Messi cried at the press conference to say goodbye to Barca after 21 years of attachment.

Messi joined PSG on a free transfer, two-year contract, option to extend for another year. He scored 31 goals, assisted 32 times in the past 69 games for PSG. However, PSG was continuously eliminated in the 1/8 round of the Champions League, making the 36-year-old superstar most likely not to renew with the team to freely leave.

Barca is looking for financial solutions to bring Messi back. They are about to submit a proposal to La Liga about the plan to sign him, and the tournament organizers also think that the two sides have reached an agreement.
