Le Thi Tuyet broke the 5000m record in the national youth tournament
In the final exam on August 9, Le Thi Tuyet had no opponent. Her achievement is more than two minutes ahead of Ha Tinh athlete, Le Thi Thanh Nga, who finished second. The Phu Yen runner broke the record of the national youth tournament - 16 minutes 52 seconds 31 - set by Quang Ninh senior Pham Thi Hue in 2014 in Nam Dinh.
The silver medal belonged to 18-year-old athlete Thanh Nga with a record of 19 minutes 4 seconds 39. Another 18-year-old runner, belonging to the Army delegation, Nguyen Thi Ninh received a bronze medal with 19 minutes 4 seconds 77.
The National Youth Athletics Championship is held annually, for athletes from 16 to 19 years old. This year, the playground is for athletes born in 2004 to 2007. Last year, Le Thi Tuyet also finished first in the women's 5000m with a record of 17 minutes 14 seconds 83. At that time, she also won the women's 10,000m gold medal with 35. minutes 57 seconds 20.
Born in 2004, Le Thi Tuyet once shocked when she broke the marathon record of the National Sports Festival last year with 2 hours 47 minutes 3 seconds. At that time, Phu Yen's runner broke the record of 2 hours and 48 minutes, which was also established by another monument - Quang Ngai athlete Pham Thi Binh - set up at the 2014 congress.
At the 32nd SEA Games, Le Thi Tuyet represented Vietnam in the women's marathon. She won the silver medal with a parameter of 2 hours 49 minutes, when later Odekta Elvina Naibaho - Indonesian athlete won the gold medal. In the harsh competition conditions in Cambodia, the performance of the 19-year-old athlete was highly appreciated, because the result was not too far from the achievement at the National Sports Festival.
Le Thi Tuyet has a petite figure, only 1m46 tall and weighs 37kg. Because of that, she is called with the nickname "Chili Pepper". After the sport was halted by Covid-19, Phu Yen athlete suddenly emerged and is considered a promising talent of Vietnamese athletics for long distances.
