Qatar After losing 1-3 to France in the round of 16 on December 4, Polish striker Robert Lewandowski thinks that the home team is too defensive in the 2022 World Cup.

"If Poland were to attack, things could be different. It's not very interesting that we are more defensive," Lewandowski said in a post-match interview.

Poland played firmly for most of the first half against France. But they had difficulty after Olivier Giroud opened the scoring in the 44th minute. The need to focus on the attack in the second half made the Polish defense always face fast French counter-attacks. They lost two more goals in the last 15 minutes of the second half, before Lewandowski closed the gap to 1-3 in the last minute of compensation.

According to the Barca striker, the Polish player enjoyed the World Cup, creating a good boost for the future of this country's football. But to reach out, Polish football needs many changes in the near future.

Polish media agreed with Lewandowski when saying that coach Czeslaw Michniewicz's tactics were not suitable at many times. The development direction of Polish football, as well as the future of coach Michniewicz, will be discussed immediately after the World Cup.

Before losing to France, Poland was lucky to enter the round of 16 of the World Cup despite losing to Argentina in the last match of the group stage. In the 0-2 defeat at the hands of Argentina, Poland played weakly when the defensive policy was to limit goals and failed to launch any shots towards the goal.

Lewandowski was also publicly disappointed after the loss to Argentina. He said: "Personally, I have never played like this. This style of play is not for a striker like me. I have to step back to defend. This is a lucky defeat."

Lewandowski closed the World Cup at the end of his career with two goals. After missing the penalty in the opening match against Mexico, the 34-year-old striker assisted and scored in the victory over Saudi Arabia, and then scored against France in the 1/8 round.
