LIV Golf player shows off 'gift' from Masters
"Christmas came early this year. Thank you Masters. I look forward to seeing you all next April," Reed wrote on Instagram on December 23. Meanwhile, Na expressed her mood: "So excited to attend the 2023 Masters. What a perfect Christmas present."
Reed and Na both posted official invitations from the Augusta National Stadium Administration - which exclusively owns and hosts the opening ceremony of the annual traditional major quartet.
The document, signed by President Fred Ridley, is considered a great honor and may be the last for Reed and Na and their colleagues at the LIV Golf Invitational Series in the context of the host business's bitter conflict with the PGA Tour, sued each other in US courts on suspicion of unfair competition.
LIV Golf launched its Invitational Series in June, drawing at least 30 PGA Tour members, including Na and Reed. Over the past six months, all have been banned from returning to the US arena and therefore lost the opportunity to earn world points from there or lose the door to major tournaments. Along with that is the possibility that the organizations that host the prestigious tournament, which are said to be on the same side of the PGA Tour, will tighten the conditions for participation next year, including former champions and world rankings.
But on December 20, President Fred Ridley on behalf of Augusta National announced that he would not change the selection criteria for the list of matches at Masters 2023. This decision cleared the way for 16 members of LIV Golf.
According to current criteria, the Saudi-invested arena has 6 faces qualified for the Masters for life - Reed, Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia, Bubba Watson, Charl Schwartzel and Phil Mickelson, as former champions.
The group with tickets to the next round of championships in the past 5 years includes Cameron Smith (The Open 2022), Bryson DeChambeau (US Open 2020) and Brooks Koepka (US Open 2017-2018 and PGA Championship 2018-2019). . Na, Talor Gooch, Harold Varner III, Jason Kokrak, Na, Abraham Ancer and Louis Oosthuizen received invitations to be in the top 50 in the world by the end of 2022.
Masters 2023 will open on April 7. A day earlier, Augusta National is expected to announce a new set of criteria for the next matches.
