Trent Alexander-Arnold spent a forgettable day with some amateurish handling situations in the first half of the first half. In the sixth minute, he was knocked over by Anthony Gordon but the referee did not blow the whistle. The English defender threw the ball into the field in response and was immediately shown a yellow card. A few seconds later, Arnold almost received a second yellow card with an elbow to knock Gordon down to counter the counterattack. The Newcastle coaching staff and spectators shouted down the pitch for referee John Brooks to send off the 25-year-old defender, but he did not.

The nightmare did not stop there for Arnold because in the 25th minute, he missed Mohamed Salah's pass. Gordon quickly snatched the ball down to face and then shot through the legs of goalkeeper Alisson Becker to open the scoring. Outside the touchline, coach Jurgen Klopp gritted his teeth when he saw the mistake of his students.

Liverpool struggled further three minutes later, when centre-back Virgil Van Dijk fouled Alexander Isak outside the box. Referee Brooks immediately drew a red card to send off the Liverpool captain, although he explained that Isak was at the time intending the ball to go away from goal so Newcastle could not be considered deprived of a tenth chance to score. However, Brooks' decision did not change, and VAR did not intervene despite the fierce reaction of the Liverpool coaching staff.

The Newcastle audience rejoiced at the developments, and they chanted as Van Dijk stepped off the pitch. This is the first red card the Dutch midfielder has to receive in the English Premier League in a Liverpool shirt.

Klopp was forced to bring in defender Joe Gomez and take out mutant winger Luis Diaz. When he saw his number on the substitution board, Diaz pouted but accepted to leave the field.

Newcastle played more than people but did not attack aggressively, focusing on controlling the ball firmly. They created two more good chances for Miguel Almiron, but the first time goalkeeper Alisson pushed the ball well, the second time the ball hit the post.

A fragile goal difference helps the visitors not lose faith, and the Liverpool audience is still cheering enthusiastically. Their efforts paid off in the 81st minute when midfielder Sven Botman saved the ball from Diogo Jota's slot. Nunez took the opportunity to dive into the right penalty area, then sink the ball diagonally to send the ball into the net. Liverpool fans in St James' Park all jumped to celebrate the home team's equalizer.

Coach Eddie Howe appeared worried, but he did not expect that the evening would be even worse for the home team. In the third minute of the second half, midfielder Bruno Guimaraes failed to pass in the home field, allowing Salah to poke a slot for Nunez to plunge into the penalty area. Once again, the Uruguayan striker shot into the far corner to seal a 2-1 victory for Liverpool.
