Losing to the Thais again, the Vietnamese men's 3x3 basketball team was empty-handed at the 32nd SEA Games
After losing close to Cambodia in the semi-final, the Vietnam men's 3x3 basketball team had a reunion with Thailand, the team that shattered the Golden dream of the 31st SEA Games host 1 year ago.
7 out of 8 names attending the encounter in Thanh Tri district's powerhouse were present at Modorok Techo on the morning of May 7, except for Chris Dierker, who was replaced by Nguyen Huynh Phu Vinh.
It was Phu Vinh and Khoa Tran who created an interesting combination to help Vietnam Tel soon rise to the top in the bronze medal match. The combination of these two players sometimes creates a 4 point difference.
However, Thailand quickly caught up, and since the 11-11 draw, they have completely dominated the game. The breakthrough phases of Freddie Lish, along with the throws of Moses Morgan, Tra Holder constantly tormented the Vietnamese defense.
Justin Young and his teammates could only equalize one more time at the 13th mark, before seeing the opponent score 8 points in a row to end the match.
The 13-21 loss marked the first time in the history of the Vietnam men's 3x3 basketball team that they failed to win a medal at the Southeast Asian Games. Justin Young and Khoa Tran's journey in Phnom Penh also ended, when they did not attend the 5x5 event.
