Lu Kaku: 'It is wrong to return to Chelsea'

"The biggest challenge in my career will be the next season with Inter. I went last season, and it was a mistake," Lukaku said at the launch event of Inter's 2022-2023 season /7. The Belgian striker then asserted that he was very happy to wear Inter's shirt.

In the summer of 2021, Lukaku pressured to leave Inter and joined Chelsea with a record price of 135 million USD, receiving the highest weekly salary of the club history - about $ 350,000. However, the Belgian striker did not meet the expectations of only eight goals in the Premier League, and 15 goals in 44 matches in all competitions.

Lukaku quickly regretted the decision to ask for Chelsea. He apologized to fans and openly wanted to return to Inter in an interview with Sky Sport Italy in December 2021. This summer, Lukaku accepted to reduce nearly half of the income to reunite Inter under a loan contract for a year.

Last weekend, Lukaku contributed a goal in a 10-0 victory over Milanese - the club was kicking in the 5th Italian Division - in Inter's first -season friendly match. Today 16/7, Inter will play the second friendly match against Monaco on Stadio Paolo Mazza - Spal's home field.

Lukaku has no permanent purchase clause in his contract with Inter Milan this time, and he may have to return to Chelsea in the summer of 2023. Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel admits he is unaware of Lukaku's future but has revealed he accepted the Belgian striker's desire to leave after a meeting with new club Todd Boly.

"In theory, the contract is just a one-year loan and Lukaku certainly has a chance to return to Chelsea. But, I don't know if that will happen," the German coach told Sky Sports.

Lu Kaku played for Inter Milan in 2019-2021 and scored 64 goals in 95 games. He helped Milan win the 2020-2021 Serie A title and reach the 2019-2020 Europa League final.
