Lukaku is welcome at AS Roma
Lukaku joined AS Roma on loan from Chelsea. The Italian club will pay a fee of $ 6.3 million to have the service of the 30-year-old striker for a year. Yesterday, Lukaku flew to Roma to complete the procedure before signing a contract with the Olimpico team.
Although disgraced at Chelsea and not in high form when wearing the Inter Milan shirt last season, Lukaku is still a rookie that is expected by AS Roma fans. Hundreds of people gathered at Ciampino airport for hours to wait for the Belgian striker. When Lukaku got off the plane, the Roma fans shouted his name. Many people prepared banners and pictures cheering the former Man Utd striker.
Lukaku was surprised by the warm welcome of AS Roma fans. He smiled and waved as he stepped off the plane. Lukaku then placed his hand on his chest and pointed towards them as a response.
The 30-year-old striker needed the help of security staff, and AS Roma representatives to move when exiting the large gate of the airport. Lukaku doesn't mind. He raised a scarf with the AS Roma logo over his head to reciprocate the love from the fans.
Lukaku will reunite with coach Jose Mourinho, who led him at Chelsea and Man Utd. The Belgium international is expected to return to form after a struggling year for the national team and club. Lukaku failed to score at the 2022 World Cup. His contribution was limited to Inter's journey to the Champions League final last season. When he was introduced to the field in the final against Man City, Lukaku was even mocked for his missed phases.
Lukaku won Serie A with Inter two years ago, under the guidance of Antonio Conte. That season, he scored 30 goals in all competitions. Chelsea want to sell Lukaku this summer.
Inter made an offer of $ 33 million for Chelsea but then withdrew when it was discovered that Lukaku was negotiating with Juventus. Mourinho is said to have called to convince Lukaku and was one of the reasons why the striker chose Roma.
