Maguire scored an own goal in England's win

Central defender Harry Maguire scored an own goal when England won 3-1 at Scotland in a friendly match on the evening of September 12.

Maguire's own goal occurred in the 67th minute. In the situation where Scotland counterattacked, the Man Utd midfielder tried to block Andy Robertson's cross. But his left-footed touch sent the ball home when goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale fell over and missed.

Unlike the 1-1 draw with Ukraine three days ago, Maguire did not start. He came on to replace Marc Guehi at the beginning of the second half. The 30-year-old midfielder played quite well despite not being able to play at the club recently. However, making a mistake that directly led to a single goal loss could affect Maguire's future in the England team. Previously, coach Gareth Southgate had stated that Maguire needed to play more often if he wanted to compete for a starting position in the team.

In this match, England almost dominated despite playing at Scotland's national stadium Hampden Park. They controlled the ball 62%, launched nine shots, of which five were on target. Scotland shot five times throughout the match but failed to hit the target. The home team rarely created any notable situations, unlike when they defeated Cyprus 3-0 on September 9.

The brightest star in the match was midfielder Jude Bellingham, who Southgate assigned to play the "number 10" position, similar to the role at Real Madrid. The 20-year-old midfielder contributed one goal and one assist. Bellingham has flourished since moving to Real this summer. Through the first four rounds of La Liga, he scored five goals, contributed one assist and was voted the best player in three matches.
