Man City is confident to recruit Bellingham
According to British newspaper SunSport, Real is leading the race for Bellingham's signature. However, sources close to Man City believe that the prospect of working with Guardiola is an advantage that helps them convince the 19-year-old midfielder to move to the Etihad Stadium. Besides, Man City is also ready for the financial potential to auction this new star.
Liverpool is another potential destination for Bellingham, when coach Jurgen Klopp has repeatedly publicly praised the talent of the English midfielder. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson are said to have persuaded their juniors to move to Anfield, when they both attended the 2022 World Cup.
Also according to SunSport, Man Utd is planning to spend more than 200 million USD to recruit Bellingham and Barca midfielder Frenkie de Jong. Erik ten Hag's problem is that Bellingham once turned down Man Utd to join Dortmund.
Man Utd once awarded Bellingham a scholarship and invited the midfielder to visit the training ground as well as the club's traditional room. Club legends, such as Sir Alex Ferguson, Eric Cantona or Bryan Robson, have all met to convince Bellingham. However, Bellingham chose to join Dortmund because he believed in the Bundesliga team's youth training tradition.
Bellingham joined Birmingham City when he was less than eight years old, and became the youngest player ever to play for the club's first team when he made his debut in September 2019, at 16 years and 38 days. In the 2019-2020 season, he scored four goals in 44 games, then joined Dortmund for $ 32.7 million in the summer of 2020, and became the most expensive 17-year-old player in history. The 19-year-old stood out at Dortmund last season with six goals and 14 assists in 44 games in all competitions. This season, Bellingham continues to sublimate with eight goals and two assists in 18 matches.
Bellingham has played for England U15, U16, U17 and U21 teams. Bellingham is the youngest player to attend the Euros with 17 years and 349 days, when he came on as a substitute for captain Harry Kane in the opening match of Euro 2021 against Croatia. By the 2022 World Cup, Bellingham became a key player next to Declan Rice, contributing one goal and one assist.
According to Transfermarkt, Bellingham is currently the fourth most expensive player in the world with $117 million, equal to compatriot Phil Foden, and just behind Vinicius ($128 million), Erling Haaland (180), Kylian Mbappe (192). According to British media, Dortmund can ask for a transfer fee for Bellingham - who has a contract until the summer of 2025 - up to $ 150 million.
