Man Utd do not appeal Casemiro's red card
According to the Daily Mail, the Old Trafford team felt that the possibility of a successful appeal was not high, so it decided to serve the penalty. As a result, Casemiro will miss Man Utd's next four matches in domestic competitions, including three matches against Brighton, Newcastle and Brentford in the Premier League and Fulham in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
Casemiro was sent off by referee Anthony Taylor for a challenge on Carlos Alcaraz after 32 minutes. Initially, Taylor showed a yellow card, but after being advised by VAR referee Andre Marriner, he changed it to a red card.
According to Premier League regulations, players receiving red cards are banned for three matches. But given that Casemiro has already been sent off twice this season - the last time against Crystal Palace in February, he was given an extra game.
This is Casemiro's third suspension this season. In addition to two red cards, the Brazilian midfielder was absent once because he received all five yellow cards. Before joining Man Utd, Casemiro had never received a direct red card. During his time playing for Real Madrid, he was sent off twice, but both for receiving a second yellow card.
Although Man Utd did not appeal, Erik Ten Hag criticized the referee's decision to show the red card and said that VAR was inconsistent when it came to intervening situations on the pitch. "At the start of the season, the referees said that this is the Premier League, where there are intense games. Casemiro has never received a red card in 500 European matches. But has been booked twice since arriving. here," complained the Dutch coach.
