Man Utd led 2-0 thanks to a brace from midfielder Marcel Sabitzer after only the first 21 minutes, until near the end of the second half. However, a series of catastrophic situations struck the host, when central defender Raphael Varane left the field injured, and midfielder Bruno Fernandes received a yellow card and was suspended in the second leg. The "Red Devils" also conceded two goals from their own own goal, in the middle of which was the serious injury of center-back Lisandro Martinez, causing the home team to play 10 people in the last 10 minutes.

Man Utd started the game excitedly and put the ball into the net in the first minute with a shot from Jadon Sancho, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Sevilla continued to risk raising the offside trap but they had to pay the price with two consecutive goals following a scenario.

In the 15th minute, midfielder Bruno Fernandes poked a slot for Marcel Sabitzer to rush down to receive the ball in the penalty area. The Austrian midfielder shot his left foot and hit the visitor's defender's leg and changed the direction to fly to a high angle, making goalkeeper Bono unable to return. Sabitzer played as an attacker in this match, while Fernandes played back as a central midfielder next to Casemiro. Ten Hag's adjustment helps Bayern Munich's full-time midfielder have more opportunities to shine.

Six minutes after the opening goal, Sabitzer scored again. The first attack this time belonged to striker Anthony Martial with a stop, turned and poked a slot for Sabitzer to plunge to face the goalkeeper. Once again, the 29-year-old midfielder shot with his left foot, overtaking goalkeeper Bono to score his first double for Man Utd.
