The ceremony began with a performance by saxophonist Asya Fateyeva and pianist Bruce Liu, based on the tune of the Champions League song. Two familiar MCs invited by UEFA are Pedro Pinto and Reshmin Chowdhury. Man City's Director of Football, Mr. Txiki Begiristain, also appeared at the ceremony and spoke, even though the transfer window is about to enter the final day.

As usual, UEFA Deputy General Secretary Giorgio Marchetti explained the draw process. The 2023-2024 Champions League group stage consists of 32 teams, divided into eight groups of four teams each. Teams from the same seeding group or from the same league will not be in the same group. Teams from the same city will not play at home on the same day.

The organizers started drawing from the number one seed group, including Man City, Barca, Sevilla, Bayern, PSG, Napoli, Benfica and Feyenoord. The teams drawn in this group will in turn fall into the table in order from A to H.

The organizers then selected the second seed group, including Real Madrid, Man Utd, Inter Milan, Dortmund, Atletico Madrid, Leipzig, Porto and Arsenal. Each drawn team will have several selections falling into the groups, and UEFA representatives will draw additional balls from those groups to determine the team's group.

The same draw took place in the third seed group consisting of Shakhtar Donetsk, Salzburg, AC Milan, Braga, Lazio, Red Star Belgrade, Copenhagen, PSV, and the fourth seed group Real Sociedad, Galatasaray, Celtic, Newcastle, Union Berlin , Lens, Young Boys, Antwerp.

Also at the ceremony, UEFA will announce the awards for best male and female player, best male and female team coach and a UEFA President's award given to striker Miroslav Klose.

Group stage matches take place from September 19 to December 13, 2023. On December 18, UEFA will draw lots for the 1/8 round matches.
