Atalanta club agreed to sell 20-year-old striker Rasmus Hojlund to Man Utd for a transfer fee of $ 83 million, not including surcharges.

Man Utd have reached an agreement with Atalanta and Hojlund, and the rest of the deal is just paperwork and the results of the Danish striker's medical examination. Hojlund has been a Man Utd fan since childhood and he will sign a 5-year contract with the "Red Devils", after turning down the interest of PSG.

Man Utd had to go through many price increases to ask for Atalanta to agree to sell. On Wednesday, July 26, "Red Devils" offered a price of $ 55 million, plus 11 million in additional fees, but was rejected.

That night, Man Utd lost to Real Madrid 0-2 in a friendly in the US, as attacking players squandered opportunities. After the game, coach Erik ten Hag said that he definitely had to add a striker. So Man Utd returned to the negotiating table with Atalanta and the asking price was right with the wishes of this team.

According to Athletic, Atalanta agreed to receive $ 83 million paid by Man Utd in advance, an additional $ 11 million in surcharges, making the deal up to $ 94 million. Initially, Atalanta demanded $99 million.

Atalanta did not want to sell Hojlund, and the Danish striker also had four years left on his contract, but the huge transfer fee that Man Utd offered made the team unable to refuse. Coach Gian Piero Gasperini also did not want to lose Hojlund, but he was also comforted when the team reached an agreement to sign striker El Bilal Toure from Almeria to replace Hojlund.

Hojlund will be Man Utd's seventh most expensive acquisition, after Paul Pogba, Antony, Harry Maguire, Romelu Lukaku, Jadon Sancho and Angel di Maria. The 20-year-old striker joined Atalanta in the summer of 2022 for a transfer fee of only $ 19 million. He scored nine goals and assisted twice in 32 Serie A games last season. According to Whoscored, Hojlund is 1.91 m tall but has a knack for dribbling, and his weakness is his ability to make walls and defend from a distance.

Hojlund was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on February 4, 2003, grew up in this city's team before going to Austria to play for Sturm Graz. He has scored 27 goals in 87 games during his club career, and six in six games for Denmark.
