Mbappe helped PSG win their first Champions League match
Mbappe scored in the eighth consecutive match for PSG, in an overwhelming position for the Bundesliga runner-up. This season he has scored a total of eight goals, accounting for 67% of the home team's goals. Mbappe's close friend, defender Achraf Hakimi, also scored the other goal to sink Dortmund in Paris.
PSG kept the ball 78% of the first half, and shot 12 times but did not score any goals. In the first half of the second half, they shot twice more and scored two goals. Meanwhile, the away team did not create any significant opportunities, and often lost the ball quickly without being able to deploy it across the midfield line.
Despite being overwhelmed, PSG had to rely on a controversial situation to score. In the 47th minute, Mbappe hit Niklas Sule in the arm when the midfielder was lowering his weight and preparing to put his hands on the ground. Referee Gil Manzano immediately awarded a penalty to the home team, and VAR did not change this decision, although the away team responded that the distance between the two players was too close for Sule to have time to react.
Mbappe himself took a penalty shot to the bottom left corner, causing goalkeeper Gregor Kobel to fall in the right direction without even having time to touch the ball. Previously, Kobel faced two penalties in the tournament, but both pushed away shots from Riyad Mahrez (Man City) and Pedro Goncalves (Sporting).
Most of the Parc des Princes audience stood up and applauded when their star scored the first goal for the team in the tournament. For PSG, Mbappe is the most important player, and the Champions League is also the most meaningful tournament.
PSG scored another goal just nine minutes later, this time coming from an impromptu hit between Vitinha and Achraf Hakimi in the middle. Finally, the Portuguese midfielder stretched to let the Moroccan player pass him before flicking the ball into the far corner and into the net from close range. Hakimi tried not to celebrate scoring against his old team, but still smiled when his teammates came to share his joy.
Although Dortmund did not create many good opportunities, the away team's audience still sang cheers throughout the match. On the field, the yellow shirt player received consecutive yellow cards in a scuffle with his opponent. That's all Edin Terzic's team did in Paris.
