US Jannik Sinner stands in front of the opportunity to win the first Masters 1000, when he fights senior Daniil Medvedev in the Miami Open final today 2/4.

Sinner just got his revenge on Carlos Alcaraz, after losing to his Spanish opponent in the semi-finals of the BNP Paribas Open two weeks ago. He has another chance to take revenge on Medvedev today in the Miami Open. Sinner has lost to Medvedev in all five previous meetings, most recently the Rotterdam Open final in February.

Sinner has not yet won the Masters 1000, even reaching the final for the second time. Medvedev has won the championship for the eighth time at this level. He lost to Alcaraz in the final at Indian Wells two weeks ago. The Russian tennis player has been in peak form for the past two months, reaching the fifth final in a row.

"Alcaraz is in shape, but obviously nobody can win 100 games in a row," Medvedev said in an interview before the Miami Open final. "In a match, one can be better than the other to win. In the final, Sinner and I will experience that."

Medvedev considers his forehand weaker than Sinner. He said: "Even at the baseline, Sinner and Alcaraz can hit very hard. They will cause problems for opponents in the position of being pushed away."

ATP statistics show that Sinner is the best performer on returns, both forehand and backhand, in Miami this year. Meanwhile, Medvedev is most effective when switching from defense to counterattack and vice versa. Both lead in the ability to earn points from the baseline.

Preferring a late-court approach, Medvedev will have to be wary of Sinner's ability to net. The Italian player won 16 of his 25 advances to the court in the semi-finals against Alcaraz.

"I just had the best game of my career," Sinner said after defeating Alcaraz. "But the final is a completely different match, against a different opponent. I never beat Medvedev, sometimes I pulled him into the third set but that wasn't enough. I am ready for a new challenge and will see what. happen".

Medvedev and Sinner are two of the best players this season. Medvedev won 28 and lost three, while Sinner won 21 and lost four.

Sinner will be ranked sixth in the world if he wins the Miami Open. The 21-year-old tennis player maintains a stable form when not falling out of the top 20 in the world since August 2021. Now it's time for him to step up to the next level, asserting himself with his first Masters 1000 title.
