Medvedev scolded US Open fans

American Daniil Medvedev meant to say American fans were stupid, in his 6-2, 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 win over Christopher O'Connell on September 1.

When Medvedev was about to serve, the pair of fans walked back to their seats. The Russian tennis player looked dissatisfied and asked the two fans to be quiet. The woman turned around and blew a kiss to provoke Medvedev, making him angry. "Are you stupid or something wrong?" Medvedev asked the female fan.

This is not the first time Medvedev has been angry with US Open fans. Four years ago, in the match against Feliciano Lopez in the third round, Medvedev had some bad actions and was booed by the audience. He responded by raising his middle finger to the crowd. After the match, Medvedev said that thanks to the audience's protests, he had the energy to win the five-set match.

In the match on September 1, the third seed took four sets to defeat O'Connell, to enter the third round to meet Sebastian Baez. After the game, Medvedev was still angry. When asked if inhibition would help him like it did four years ago, he replied: "It depends. You can't predict how things will turn out. It's like the lottery."

Medvedev is in good form at the 2023 US Open. In the first round, he beat Attila Balazs in the most lopsided match in history, with a score of 6-1, 6-1, 6-0. The Russian tennis player said that he does not care about how good Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic are, but only focuses on his own journey to advance and compete with them.

In the same semi-final group as Medvedev, Alcaraz easily won the first two matches against Dominik Koepfer and Lloyd Harris. The number one seed will meet Daniel Evans in the third round, taking place at 11pm today, September 2, Hanoi time. Evans is also in good form, having just won the ATP 500 Citi Open last month.
