Medvedev vs Zverev in the third round of Monte Carlo Masters
In the first match on clay this season, Medvedev handled the difficult opponent Sonego. The Russian player lost only three points from serve in the whole match, to win his 25th match in the last 26 encounters. Since the beginning of the season, Medvedev has won 30 matches, the most on the ATP Tour.
In the next round, Medvedev will meet Zverev for the first time on clay. The two players have faced each other 13 matches, both on hard courts. The last time at Indian Wells last month, Medvedev won back after three sets. Zverev is in good form at the tournament, having surpassed Alexander Bublik and Roberto Bautista Agut respectively.
Match day 12/4 saw Lorenzo Musetti's perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory over fellow Italian, Luca Nardi. In the third round, Musetti will face the number one seed Novak Djokovic. The match recalls the match in the fourth round of Roland Garros 2021, when Djokovic lost to Musetti in the first two sets and then won back when the opponent lost the game and gave up in the fifth set. Escaped against Musetti that year, Djokovic defeated Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals, and then Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final to win the Grand Slam in Paris.
Dominic Thiem has not achieved good results after parting with coach Nicolas Massu last week. Under new coach Benjamin Ebrahimzadeh, Thiem lost to Holger Rune 2-6, 4-6 in the second round. Rune, who reached the quarterfinals of Roland Garros last year, will meet Matteo Berrettini in the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters.
The eight matches in the third round are all taking place today, April 13. The earliest matches are Hubert Hurkacz vs Jannik Sinner and Casper Ruud vs Jan-Lennard Struff, both starting at 4pm (Hanoi time). Then Stefanos Tsitsipas met Nicolas Jarry and Karen Khachanov met Andrey Rublev in the all-Russian match. Djokovic is scheduled to play at 19:30 with Musetti, at the same time as Taylor Fritz's match against Jiri Lehecka. The latest matches of the day are Zverev - Medvedev and Rune - Berrettini.
