Mendy: 'Stop Haaland like Benteke'
City have just paid $62 million for Erling Haaland, the forward who has scored 86 goals in 89 appearances for Borussia Dortmund. Meanwhile, Benteke has scored just 37 goals in 177 appearances for Crystal Palace. However, according to Edouard Mendy, all opponents are treated equally as goalkeepers.
"I saw Haaland at Crystal Palace just like I saw Benteke at Crystal Palace. For me, Crystal Palace is not much different from Manchester City," goalkeeper Mendy was quoted as saying by the Enough Football website. "You have to focus because Benteke is a striker and he can score. We have our methods. We don't focus on a striker or a team, we focus on every striker and every team. We want to win."
While Haaland moved from Germany to England, the Premier League lost Sadio Mane in the opposite direction. The player scored 120 goals in 269 matches for Liverpool to Bayern under a $ 34 million contract. After eight consecutive years of playing in the UK, Mane wanted to find a challenge in Germany. Mendy talks about the ivory coast team: "Mane is a big loss for the Premier League both in quality and human. He has excellent personal qualities and is an example for young players." .
This summer, Chelsea has also changed a lot. After nearly 20 years of work, former boss Roman Abramovich had to leave because of the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. American billionaire Todd Boehly and his colleagues spent nearly $3 billion to buy this furniture music department.
After Abramovich, many senior managers and coaches also left. Two of those are technical directors-former goalkeeper Cech and goalkeeping coach Christopher Lolishon-who have had a big impact on Mendy. He said: "I don't think I would be at Chelsea without Peter and Christopher. I will always be grateful to them. The best way to make them proud is to do the best they can on the pitch. We have owners. Some people will come and some people will go. This is life at the club. No matter what changes, we are happy to start again."
