Messi surpasses Ronaldo's record
The goal in the 26th minute of the victory over Nice helped Messi have 702 goals in 846 matches for clubs in Europe, namely PSG and Barca. The old record belonged to Cristiano Ronaldo, with 701 goals in a total of 949 appearances for Sporting Lisbon, Man Utd, Real and Juventus.
Messi broke Ronaldo's record, even though he played less than 105 games. With the assist for Sergio Ramos to seal a 2-0 victory in the match against Nice, Messi also hit the 1000 mark on club goals in Europe. According to FOX and ESPN Stats, Messi has 792 goals and 298 assists in this category.
Ronaldo is wearing the Al Nassr club in Asia on a two-year contract, so it is almost impossible to catch up with Messi on the above scoring record. Messi promises not to stop at 702 goals for clubs in Europe, while playing well for PSG. This season, the Argentine superstar has scored 19 goals and assisted 18 times for the French team, after 34 matches.
In Ligue 1 alone, after contributing one goal and one assist against Nice, Messi has 14 goals and 14 assists this season. On Twitter, the @Desmund_Oris account refuted the idea that Messi was lackluster at PSG, when comparing Messi's parameters with Man Utd's Marcus Rashford. Rashford scored 15 goals and contributed four assists in the Premier League, considered the best player in the league. According to @Desmund_Oris, Messi is not properly credited, because he is a victim of his own success.
Since the start of Ligue 1 2022-2023 until now, Messi has scored 58 goals for PSG and the Argentina team, in 45 starts. His latest brilliance helped PSG to break Nice's 14-match unbeaten circuit, thereby cementing the top of the Ligue 1 table with six points more than the second in the Lens group.
